Beyond – Finding Freedom & Meaning in the Everyday
In the grand scheme of things, all there is, is change. Change is the only constant, so I have been told.
I look out the window as winter recedes, the special sunlight of spring shining through the pane of glass, compelling me to go outside. As I walk through the garden, I notice the shoots of a plant exiting the earth and revealing itself to me. The change is obvious, simple. One day the plant isn’t there, the next day it is. Amazing.
People say change is difficult. Maybe, maybe not. Nature is all about change and it doesn’t seem to make things difficult: nothing is static, not even the rotting stump I see when I go for a walk in the woods. It is in a constant state of change, helping other things grow.
Maybe I focus on the wrong thing if I think change is difficult.
Maybe I need to attend to growth instead: the idea that, as I grow, I change, and the world around me changes with me. I see things differently, as I grow. I see that maybe even the word “change” itself is inaccurate. Maybe I limit myself. Maybe, as I grow, I can only conclude that everything is an expression of its perfect self. The plant reaching for sunshine, though not fully flowering, is at the moment I see it, a perfect expression of being a plant.
Stop for a moment you can see this too!
As I grow within myself, breaking free of the past and the confines of the rules, concepts, and ideas that limit me, I discover a deeper understanding of who I am. Even as I grow, I am a perfect expression of myself.
